About This Blog

Welcome to my corner of the internet dedicated to everything birding in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas!

This blog was created to be the go-to resource for birders—new and seasoned—who want to explore one of the most unique birding destinations in North America. Whether you’re planning your first trip to South Texas or you’re a local looking to expand your life list, you’ll find everything you need right here—from hotspot guides and seasonal tips to gear recommendations and species profiles.

The Rio Grande Valley is a special place, rich in biodiversity and full of surprises. My goal is to help you get the most out of your time here, whether you’re hoping to spot a Green Jay for the first time or return for another glimpse of a Groove-billed Ani.

About Me

I discovered birding in 2020, like many others, during the quiet days of the COVID pandemic. What started as simple walks around the neighborhood with a pair of borrowed binoculars quickly turned into a deep and lasting passion. The more I looked, the more I noticed—and before I knew it, I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve documented over 250 different species of birds right here in the Rio Grande Valley alone. From the colorful South Texas specialties to the more elusive migrants, each sighting has been a thrill.

Birding, to me, is entertaining, relaxing, rewarding, and deeply satisfying. It slows life down in all the right ways. It’s taught me patience, attentiveness, and a greater appreciation for the natural world around us.

This blog is where I share what I’ve learned—and continue to learn—as a birder in this incredible region. I hope it inspires you to get out there, look up, and enjoy the beauty that’s all around us.
